On January 19-20, the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) was held in Kampala (Uganda). The Russian delegation was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Vershinin.

During the event, Sergey Vershinin announced a welcome message from Russian President Vladimir Putin, which notes the significant authority of the NAM in the global arena, due to the important role of this representative structure in the processes of building a more just, democratic and multipolar system of international relations. The general attitude of the association’s participants to promote a constructive dialogue between members of the world community based on universally recognized and binding norms of international law is emphasized.

In addition, Sergey Vershinin confirmed the readiness of our country, which has observer status with the Non-Aligned Movement, for further effective interaction with NAM member states, including at the UN site, taking into account the proximity of Russia’s and the association’s approaches to many global problems.

As a result of the Summit, the final document and the Kampala Declaration of NAM were adopted, which outlined the priorities of the Movement’s activities for the next three years, a declaration on Palestine, as well as a statement in support of Uganda as the new chairman of the association.
