On March 16, 2024, the Head of the CIS Observer Mission, Ilkhom Nematov, met with the presidential candidate of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the LDPR Party Leonid Slutsky in Moscow.
The candidate said that his program was developed on the basis of a broad public discussion and a survey of citizens that showed the main problems faced by Russians. He also described the course of the election campaign as regular and drew attention to the fact that the organization of the electoral process does not cause any complaints.
Ilkhom Nematov, in turn, spoke about the composition and work of the Mission. The election campaign is being monitored by 194 people who have repeatedly participated in similar missions in Russia and other CIS countries. “We are following the elections with interest, how the preparation of commissions at all levels was going on, how campaigning was conducted. Our task is to collect complete and reliable information about the main stages of the election campaign and to give an objective assessment of the activities of all interested parties,” the Head of the Mission stressed. We are closely monitoring the voting process, communicating with voters and observers on the ground. The findings of the Mission will be made public the day after the voting is completed at a press conference.
The meeting also discussed the specifics of the current campaign, the principles of the observers’ work, and the mood of the voters. Leonid Slutsky pointed out the important role of the work of public monitoring centers in the field.
The head of the mission noted the importance of the presidential elections not only for the Russian Federation, but also for the entire Commonwealth and stressed that, having met with all the candidates for President of Russia, he was convinced of their commitment to further strengthen cooperation in the Commonwealth.
In conclusion, Leonid Slutsky expressed gratitude for the meeting and stressed that the CIS Executive Committee plays a cementing role in strengthening cooperation between the Commonwealth countries. “We know this and appreciate it very much,” he said.
