Car owners in the country will start to be issued eco-stickers limiting the access of cars to certain ecological zones of the city.

Starting this year, cars in all regions of Uzbekistan will be given free “green”, “yellow” and “red” stickers depending on their ecological category. This measure is stipulated in the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic “On measures to reduce the negative impact of vehicles on the atmospheric air”.

According to the decision, from June 1, the “Ecological Transport” system will be gradually introduced in the republic to control compliance with permissible standards of harmful impact of pollutant emissions from all categories of motor vehicles on the atmospheric air.

According to the document, the territories until 2030 will be divided into ecological zones based on the actual environmental situation related to the air: “clean” (“green”), “medium” (“yellow”) and “harmful” (“red”).

Based on the results of the diagnostic inspection, cars will be given a tamper-proof eco-sticker with electronic labeling: green – clean, yellow – medium, red – harmful. Diagnostics and stickers will be free of charge.

The Ecological Transportation system will be implemented in stages:

first stage, 2024-2026 – Tashkent;

second stage, 2026-2028 – Nukus and regional centers, also if necessary in certain eco-zones (tourist centers, nature reserves, health and recreation zones and others);

third stage, 2028-2030 – throughout the country.

Drivers of cars whose environmental parameters do not meet the zone of the region will pay compensation or will not be able to enter it.

“The funds received will be used to improve the ecological situation in the country and protect the environment,” the text of the document says.

Emergency vehicles and public transportation (except cabs and shuttle buses) can enter all ecological zones without restrictions or bans.

Owners of electric cars and also new cars will be sent eco-stickers by mail.

For electric cars, electric motorcycles, as well as other vehicles that are no more than three years old from the date of manufacture, owners will be issued “green” eco-stickers free of charge and without diagnostics.

The Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, khokimiyats of cities and regions on the proposals of the Ministry of Ecology will determine and change the boundaries of ecological zones in the regions.
