MINSK, Apr 8 – Sputnik. The scientific director of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician Lev Zeleny, said that Belarus is planned to participate in the Russian lunar program, and the republic will be involved with electronics and mechanical devices produced in it.Zelyony stressed that the Russian Academy of Sciences has established “very good working relations with Belarusian colleagues,” in particular with the head of the space department of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Peter Vityaz, with whom regular meetings are held.
“And last time, we even discussed extending the range of this cooperation to the lunar program,” Lev Zeleny said at a press conference on Monday.

Belarus wants to participate in the Lunar Program
In March of this year, the head of the Aerospace Activities Department of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Peter Vityaz, said that the republic was interested in participating in the Russian lunar program.
“We are interested in participating in the Russian lunar program, we are now discussing the issue of our possible participation in various studies,” he said at the time.
The academician clarified that it is not only about equipment, technologies and scientific projects, but also about the exploration of the Moon.

In the future, he said, it is necessary to conduct a number of medical studies on the International Space Station regarding preparation for long-range flights and the development of an Earth satellite.
In 2024, an experiment is being conducted at the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences to simulate a flight to the Moon by a crew consisting of six people. The team within the SIRIUS-23 project was closed in the institute’s test complex on November 14, 2023. The crew included five Russians and a representative of Belarus Olga Mastitskaya.
