Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexei Overchuk reported on negotiations with several CIS countries on the construction of Russian schools and theatres. This became known on 13 May. Overchuk told with which states are negotiating.

‘We are negotiating with Kazakhstan on the construction of three schools in the south of Kazakhstan, where the biggest problems are experienced today with the Russian language. We are negotiating with Armenia and Azerbaijan,’ Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk said, “Sputnik.Kazakhstan” reports.

Deputy Prime Minister recalled that on Monday an agreement on the construction of nine Russian schools in Kyrgyzstan was signed and has already begun to be implemented. Negotiations on the construction of a modern campus of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University are also underway with the leadership of the republic. He noted that the expansion of the Pushkin School in Ashgabat is also being discussed.

Overchuk also noted the interest of CIS countries in Russian culture and art. Thus, negotiations are underway to build a Russian theatre in Dushanbe, for which a land plot has already been allocated. In addition, there is a similar interest from the leadership of Turkmenistan.

Kazakhstan is actively developing direct ties with Russian regions, including those with a predominantly Islamic population. Earlier, at the initiative of Kazakh President Kasym-Jomart Tokayev, work was started on the creation of an organisation to support and disseminate the Russian language in the CIS. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov also emphasised that the authorities of the country will create conditions for the development of the Russian language in the republic.
