Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko expressed his intention to expand Belarus’ cooperation in the field of nuclear energy at a meeting with Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev, BelTA reports.
“With the commissioning of the Belarusian NPP, our country has gained a significant advantage and strengthened energy security. In fact, with your direct participation, we have formed a new branch of the economy, which has become a great impetus for the introduction of new technologies and new innovative solutions. With the completion of the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, our relations with Rosatom have not only not slowed down, but are also successfully developing in a number of areas,” Roman Golovchenko said.
He recalled the signed intergovernmental Memorandum on deepening strategic cooperation in the field of peaceful uses of atomic energy and related high technologies, as well as a comprehensive program of bilateral Belarusian-Russian cooperation in the field of nuclear non-energy and non-atomic projects and noted that Belarus is committed to expanding cooperation with Rosatom State Corporation.
“Thanks to the joint work of the Government of Belarus, the Ministry of Energy and Rosatom, Ostrovets has the youngest, most efficient and safest station in Europe. But we don’t stop there. We are considering about 40 projects in the non-nuclear field. They are in varying degrees of readiness, but each of them, in our opinion, will become an attractive industrial, production project with new jobs, tax revenues and further development of competencies, including for supplies to third countries. For us, the main criterion is that these should not just be joint research works, there should be enterprises with attractive economic parameters at the exit,” Alexey Likhachev noted in turn.
