The State Sports Academy will be established in Uzbekistan. This became known during a presentation on the development of sports education presented to Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the presidential press service reported.

Currently, an Olympic township is being built in Tashkent’s Yashnabad District. It will host the Asian Youth Summer Games in 2025.

In the future, in order to effectively use this facility, it is planned to house the State Sports Academy of Uzbekistan.

‘The Scientific Research Institute of Physical Culture and Sport and the Institute for Advanced Training of Specialists will also be established at the academy. The Scientific and Practical Centre of Sports Medicine, the Information and Library Centre, as well as the Centre for studying the history of Uzbekistan and foreign languages will be opened within the structure of the academy,’ the report said.

From the 2025/2026 academic year, the academy will start training in three bachelor’s and six master’s specialities. Its graduates will receive a coaching certificate for six years. Graduates of Olympic and Paralympic colleges will be admitted immediately to the second year.

The President instructed the responsible persons to organise the activities of the departments and training programmes on the basis of the best foreign experience, as well as to attract highly qualified specialists.

Another news in the field of sports education will be the creation of schools of excellence in the national sport of Kurash.

‘In the world, 30 million people are engaged in this sport, in Uzbekistan – 30 thousand people professionally, even more – at the amateur level. In this regard, it is planned to open a school of mastery in kurash in each regional centre. The school will recruit 140 pupils based on the results of competitive selection among children of 5-11 grades,’ the report says.

The talk was also about preparations for major sporting events. FIFA has decided to hold the Futsal World Cup in Uzbekistan this year. Competitions involving 24 of the world’s strongest teams will be held from 14 September to 6 October in Tashkent, Andijan and Bukhara. Dignitaries from the participating countries and more than 30,000 fans are expected to arrive.

It was decided to set up an organising committee chaired by the Prime Minister to hold the championship at a high level. Also Mirziyoyev was presented a report on preparations for the Paris Olympics.
