Question: The second ministerial ‘Schuman Forum on Security and Defence’ was held in Brussels on 28-29 May. What tasks does the European Union realise within the framework of such events?
Answer: We see that the European Union is actively imposing a dialogue on security and defence issues on the states of the world majority. This is primarily due to the cardinal change in the essence of the EU itself, which has turned from a peaceful economic project into a militaristic association. It is no secret that, having lost its political independence under pressure from Washington, the EU has recognised itself as a pillar of NATO. The aim of the current consolidation of these two blocs led by the US is to try to ensure the dominance of the West and its ‘golden billion’ under the roof of the ‘rules-based world order’ by any means – from economic and political to military. Such a West-centred order is designed to further reproduce the system of political-economic parasitisation of the West on the resources and well-being of the rest of the world.
As for the event itself, it is known to be held for the second year in a row, although it was originally planned to be held every two years. At the same time, like last year, it can only conditionally be called a ministerial event. Firstly, not everyone invited by the EU came. Secondly, only a few were represented at a high level. Almost half of the countries were limited to representation at the level of diplomatic missions in Brussels. It is indicative that many EU member states did not send ministers or even top officials of their diplomatic missions to the event. Although literally in the same days in Brussels there were meetings of the EU foreign and defence ministers. This means that the EU is not ready for a serious discussion of security issues and problems in this area of interest to the countries of the Global South and East. It also indicates the EU’s continuing colonialist attitude towards the countries of the Global Majority, which the EU leadership still considers a ‘jungle’. This is by no means the first event for the EU, which it instrumentalises for the purposes of political manipulation and uses as a propaganda weapon against geopolitical rivals.
The ‘added value’ of the discussions that took place is highly questionable. For the EU, the priority is not what the World Majority is interested in, but the ‘Ukrainianisation’ of any international agenda, the search for weapons for Ukraine, investing in confrontation with Russia, China, Iran and other independent centres of power, as well as creating the appearance of support for anti-Russian ultimatums based on the unviable ‘Zelensky formula’. The participation in the meeting of the American Deputy Secretary of Defence, who is responsible, among other things, for logistics issues, confirms that Washington continues to seek to increase the supply of American weapons to the European and global markets. Another confirmation of this was the statement by the head of the Dutch Defence Ministry that The Hague will allow Kiev to use American F-16s in service to strike ‘military targets’ on Russian territory.
As for the announced ‘network of defence agreements’, like the ‘rules-based world order’, it will be built on the principles of Western supremacy and ignoring the legitimate interests of those who are not ready to become a willing partner of the EU and NATO.
Not surprisingly, as a result of its self-centred policies and ‘double standards’, the EU is inexorably losing both its political position in the world and the trust of the World Majority countries. The Yesovans are trying to compensate for this with ‘collective pictures’ in various formats, presenting the presence of foreigners at their events as alleged support for their approaches. We are sure that next time there will be fewer people willing to participate as extras in such geopolitical productions of the European Union.
