Dear friends!
I welcome you to the XII St. Petersburg International Legal Forum.
Thanks to the rich agenda and the representative composition of the participants, your meetings have become a significant social event. During the meaningful discussions, well-known legal scholars, experts and practicing lawyers exchange experiences, discuss legislative innovations and initiatives, and expand professional contacts.
Russia has consistently defended the principle of the rule of law both in domestic life and in the international arena. I am convinced that in modern conditions, it is generally recognized legal norms that remain the solid foundation on which work should be built to strengthen stability on the planet, protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States, human and civil rights and freedoms. The key role of law is undeniable in solving global and regional problems, developing economic and humanitarian ties and, of course, in combating common threats.
This year, Russia is chairing the BRICS association. Together with our partners, we strive to develop effective legal regulation that can strengthen food and energy security, contribute to the preservation of the environment and climate, and create fair rules for world trade and technological cooperation. We are ready to deepen cooperation in these areas with other countries, primarily from the Asia-Pacific region, Africa and Latin America.
I am sure that the suggestions, recommendations, and ideas expressed by the forum participants will be in demand in practice.
I wish you interesting communication and fruitful work.
Vladimir Putin
