On July 17, “on the sidelines” of the meeting The UN Security Council on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue, Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lebanese Republic Abdullah Bu Habib in New York.
During the conversation, an exchange of views took place on the current military and political situation in the Middle East, with an emphasis on the tragic events in the Gaza Strip and their impact on the situation in southern Lebanon. Sergey Lavrov stressed the inadmissibility of further escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli armed confrontation and its expansion on a regional scale.
Russia’s unwavering position in support of the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Lebanese Republic was confirmed. The need to find consensus solutions to difficult issues on the national agenda as soon as possible by the Lebanese themselves, without external interference, is emphasized.
The ministers also discussed topical issues of traditionally friendly Russian-Lebanese relations, including the implementation of events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Moscow and Beirut.
