The Cabinet of Ministers approved a new Strategy for the development of the mineral resource base until 2050.

The Government has approved an updated Strategy for the development of the mineral resource base until 2050.

As reported in the government’s telegram channel, the strategy implies two scenarios for the development of the domestic mineral resource complex. The basic one is that the supply of reserves and mining will remain practically at the existing level. The target is the rapid expansion of the mineral resource base to meet the growing demand for minerals. To do this, it is planned to open new large deposits, including in the Arctic and the Far East.

Among the main objectives of the updated strategy: a significant increase in the degree of processing and consumption of mineral raw materials within the country, the creation of the necessary infrastructure for the development and implementation of new technologies.

“It is important to fully meet the current and future needs of the economy in strategic types of solid minerals, while significantly reducing dependence on foreign supplies. First of all, manganese, chromium and titanium,” the words of Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin are quoted in the message.

Earlier, in his message to the Federal Assembly, the President of the Russian Federation spoke about the need to focus exploration on the search for rare earth materials and other raw materials for the development of priority domestic industries. A significant increase in demand for them is expected against the background of accelerated growth in the defense industry, metallurgy, chemical industry, construction sector and other key industries.

Mikhail Mishustin stressed that in this work it is necessary to rely on our own solutions in the field of subsoil exploration, mining, and processing of minerals. “We will offer businesses more attractive conditions for the development and implementation of such technologies,” he added.
