Scientists of the North Caucasus Federal University (NCFU) are creating a digital service of hydrometeorological maps of the North Caucasus to prevent natural disasters. This was reported to TASS by the press service of the university.”NCFU scientists are implementing a unique project to create hydrometeorological maps of the North Caucasus. The digital service will promptly analyze climate data and provide reliable information about possible hydrological disasters in various territories. The digital model will be able to predict and reflect on the map areas prone to flooding and other adverse processes for the next 5-10 years,” the message says.

The press service clarified that the digital service will allow agricultural producers, construction companies and other business representatives to select the safest territories for the construction of factories, gas distribution stations and other complex infrastructure.

“This service will be a convenient interactive map created based on big data analysis. <...> Now we are working on a map for the North Caucasus, in the future we plan to create such a map for all regions of Russia,” the press service reports the words of the head of the NCFU International Geotechnical Center Yevgeny Shaposhnikov.

As reported, interactive maps developed by NCFU scientists will be formed on the basis of climate observations over the past 15-20 years, as well as take into account current forecasts of meteorologists and terrain.

For the implementation of the project, funds were allocated by the Innovation Assistance Fund for the national project “Science and Universities” in the amount of 1 million rubles. During the year, the authors of the project will create the necessary material base, develop databases and make a user-friendly interface. Next, the project will be presented to business partners for further financing.
