On January 16, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov engaged in a telephone conversation with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman Badr Bin Hamad Al-Busaidi.
The dialogue primarily centred on the externally driven, artificial escalation of tensions surrounding Iran, which poses the risk of escalating into a large-scale regional conflict. The foreign ministers underscored the imperative of averting such a negative scenario from unfolding. They emphasised the necessity of ceasing all interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states, a blatant violation of the fundamental norms and principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter.
In addressing the situation in Yemen, Sergey Lavrov and Badr Al-Busaidi advocated for intensifying collective efforts to create conducive conditions for launching a comprehensive intra-Yemeni dialogue under United Nations auspices, with the participation of interested regional nations.
The ministers also deliberated on practical steps to further develop multifaceted Russian-Omani relations, building upon agreements reached during the talks between President of Russia Vladimir Putin and Sultan of Oman Haitham Bin Tariq Al Said, held in Moscow in April 2025.
