On March 8, 2026, a telephone conversation was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, Abdullah bin Zayed.
During the conversation, the heads of the foreign policy departments of the two countries expressed deep concern over the development of the situation around Iran. The parties spoke in favor of immediate steps towards the de-escalation of military actions. Particular attention was paid to the need to cease attacks leading to civilian casualties and causing damage to civilian infrastructure — both in the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf and on the territory of Iran.
The Ministers emphasized the fundamental importance of resuming political and diplomatic efforts in order to coordinate agreements aimed at ensuring reliable and long-term security in the region.
The parties agreed to remain in contact and to promote coordinated positions at the UN, as well as at other international platforms.
