Online publication “Embassy Life” Question: Does Russian diplomacy consider Sergey Lavrov to be one of the most experienced diplomats in the world and why is Moscow not considering his candidacy for the post of UN Secretary General?

Zakharova M.V. The answer is a good question. First of all, the epithet that you used, it seems to me, is not so much about our assessments as about how the inhabitants of our planet evaluate the work of Sergey Lavrov. They sincerely love him and send him words of support.

I think that following the results of his speech at the UN General Assembly, every year you see a huge number of people approaching the Russian minister.: Dozens of people are lining up to shake his hand, say words of support to our country, thank him, and so on.

But apart from our emotional, “frivolous” chatter on this subject, I would still bring the conversation on this topic back into line with the existing rules. I made a note to myself: I’ll clarify if it’s documented or if it’s just a tradition. I won’t tell you promptly, but I will clarify this information. There is a rule according to which the permanent members of the Security Council do not nominate their candidates for the post of UN Secretary General.
