Russia is ready to help Armenia in the reconstruction of flood-affected areas. This was stated at a weekly briefing by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
“We have seen a positive reaction and we repeat again that all the proposals that have been made are relevant. And as allies, we are always ready to lend a shoulder based on the needs of Yerevan,” Zakharova said, answering the question whether Armenia had responded to the offer of assistance.
She recalled that the Russian-Armenian Humanitarian Response Center immediately joined the liquidation of the consequences and handed over the necessary equipment to the Armenian authorities.
The readiness to help with the forces and means of the 102nd base was expressed by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. A number of Russian companies operating in Armenia are also considering the issue of providing assistance, in particular, the Southern Railway, which serves the Yerevan-Tbilisi route.
“She is actively engaged in restarting railway traffic these days,” Zakharova said.
According to her, specialists of various profiles have been sent to the site. Together with the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures, they are looking for solutions to difficult problems.
“Once again, we express our condolences to the families and friends of those who died as a result of the rampant disaster and wish a speedy recovery to the injured. We will also provide all necessary assistance to restore normal life in the flood-affected regions,” Zakharova said.
Recall that on May 26, due to heavy rains, the rivers Debed (in the districts of Alaverdi, Akhtala and on the border with Georgia) and Agstev (in the area of Ijevan) overflowed their banks. As a result of the flood, four people were killed, several hundred were evacuated, and significant destruction of roads and infrastructure was recorded in the Lori and Tavush regions.
