On November 12-13, 2022, Sergey Lavrov will take part in the 17th East Asian Summit, which will be held in the capital of Cambodia, Phnom Penh.

The agenda of the upcoming meeting will be the discussion of current global and regional topics. Issues of practical cooperation will be raised, including in the context of agreeing on a new Plan of action of the EAC – the “roadmap” of its work for 2023-2027.

Russia stands for the practical implementation of the documents adopted at the EAC site. The Russian side has put forward a number of proposals aimed at building regional-wide applied cooperation. This also concerns the idea of launching mechanisms for collective response to the threat of a pandemic, establishing contacts between the heads of tourism agencies and proposals for the development of cooperation in the field of volunteering.

The Russian Federation focuses on increasing the military presence of Western countries in the Asia-Pacific region. For this reason, it is considered necessary to combine the potential of ASEAN (which directly includes the Russian Federation) with other Eurasian associations, such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Eurasian Economic Union in order to increase the welfare of all parties.
