On November 14, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Mikhail Galuzin held a meeting with the “troika” of the Co-Chairs of the International Geneva Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia (MJ), represented by the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office for the South Caucasus V. Moshan, as well as the Deputy Special Representative of the European Union for the South Caucasus and the UN representative.

The main topic of the conversation was the preparation for the next round of the MZHD, scheduled for early December this year. The general commitment to continue further constructive work within the framework of this negotiation format, which has a stabilizing effect on the situation in the region, was confirmed.

In the light of the recent incident with the illegal crossing of the border of South Ossetia by Georgian citizens, the demand for more energetic work of the Co-Chairs with official Tbilisi to prevent new aggravations in the Georgian-South Ossetian border area was emphasized.

In the context of efforts to strengthen security “on the ground”, the Russian side once again focused on the importance of developing a legally binding agreement on the non–use of force between Tbilisi, on the one hand, and Sukhum and Tskhinval, on the other, as well as launching the process of delimitation of Georgia’s borders with Abkhazia and South Ossetia with their subsequent demarcation.
