On November 20, the premiere performance of the Belarusian-Russian Youth Symphony Orchestra conducted by People’s Artist of the USSR Yuri Bashmet will take place on the Main Stage of the State Academic Maly Theater.
As part of the project, the artists have prepared a program that includes masterpieces by composers of Russian and European classical music. The program of the evening: Symphony No. 5 by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Fantasy Overture “Romeo and Juliet”, Violin Concerto with Orchestra, Lensky’s Aria arranged for oboe; French Horn Concerto with Orchestra (1 part) Richard Strauss, “Fantasy on the themes of the opera Carmen for percussion instruments” by Dmitry Lukyanov.
Then the orchestra will go on tour to Minsk, where it will perform on November 22 on the stage of the Belarusian State Philharmonic.
The first joint performance of young Russian and Belarusian musicians took place in 2008. An important foreign project of the band was a performance at the site of the destroyed Berlin Wall in Germany, then the orchestra performed in the Czech Republic, Italy and England.
In 2023, it was decided to resume the activities of the youth orchestra under the direction of Yuri Bashmet, whose tours are supported by the Standing Committee of the Union State, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus.
“The activity of the collective under the leadership of the outstanding artistic director – People’s Artist of the USSR Yuri Bashmet plays an important role in strengthening and developing cultural cooperation between Russia and Belarus, and also creates conditions for the professional growth of young people in the musical academic sphere,” said Olga Lyubimova, Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation. “I am sure that the young musicians will demonstrate a high level of solo and orchestral performance, and their bright musical union will become an example of strong creative friendship.”
