Today, under the chairmanship of the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, General of the Police of the Russian Federation Vladimir Kolokoltsev, a meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission for the implementation of the State Program to assist the voluntary Resettlement of Compatriots living Abroad to the Russian Federation took place.
Opening the event, the Russian Interior Minister emphasized important changes in legislation. Thus, at the end of October, a new law “On Citizenship” came into force, according to which participants in a specialized State program can acquire it without first obtaining a temporary residence permit and a residence permit. To become Russians, they will only need documents confirming their knowledge of the Russian language, knowledge of the history and fundamentals of the legislation of the Russian Federation.
Vladimir Kolokoltsev stressed that along with preferences for compatriots, the list of crimes, the commission of which entails the termination of citizenship, has been expanded.
The participants of the event discussed the issue of providing assistance to compatriots who wish to move to Russia from the territory of unfriendly states. Vladimir Kolokoltsev noted: “Based on the geopolitical situation and the reduction in the number of Russian foreign institutions, a working group was established at the site of the Ministry of Internal Affairs a year and a half ago. Its employees provide advice by phone and by correspondence via e-mail on all relevant issues related to relocation. To date, more than five thousand appeals have been processed, a third of which are from compatriots living in unfriendly countries. Such feedback allows us to respond in a targeted manner and make adjustments to the regulatory framework, taking into account the requests of potential migrants. So, in August last year, the 547th Decree was issued, which granted the right to use the Program and apply in the state of their residence. The result of the comprehensive measures was an almost twofold increase in the number of participants in this category.”
Further modernization of the resettlement process will be carried out within the framework of the Action Plan for the implementation of the Concept of State Migration Policy, taking into account the proposals developed during the meeting.
