Question: How would you comment on the increasing number of cases of refusals to allow Russian citizens to enter the territory of Mexico, including at transit points at international airports in Istanbul, Dubai and a number of other cities.

Answer: According to the Mexican side, no changes have been introduced recently in the direction of tightening the national migration legislation. Mexican officials are working to resolve the problem. At the same time, they stress that even full compliance with the requirements for entry into Mexico, in particular, the presence of properly executed documents, including visa and its electronic analogue, return ticket, confirmation of hotel reservation and sufficient financial means, is not a guarantee of access to its territory. In case of any suspicion, security officials have the right to refuse to cross the border. The same may be applied by air carriers at transit checkpoints.

In our contacts with the authorities of Mexico and the Embassy of that country in Moscow, we insist on the need to pay special attention to properly informing Russian tourists about the above-mentioned circumstances and to take exhaustive measures to exclude cases of unjustified refusals of entry into the country in order to avoid an unfavourable impact of the current situation on tourist flows between our countries.

We recommend Russian citizens to take into account the existing risks when planning trips to Mexico.
