President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, speaking at the parade on Red Square, congratulated Russians on Victory Day.
“Dear veterans, fellow soldiers and sailors, sergeants and petty officers, midshipmen and ensigns, fellow officers, generals and admirals, fighters, commanders, front-line soldiers, heroes of a special military operation, I congratulate you on Victory Day,” Putin said.
He stressed that this is the most important, truly national, sacred holiday.
Putin said that on Victory Day, descendants bow their heads to the deceased veterans of the Great Patriotic War, to their comrades who fell in battle against Nazism and neo-Nazism.
Russia will always remember and will never forget the common struggle and traditions of alliance in the fight against Nazism, the Russian president stressed.
He noted that Russia is going through a difficult, milestone period, the fate of the motherland and its future depends on each of its sons.
“Russia is currently going through a difficult milestone period, the fate of the motherland and its future depend on each of us. Today, on Victory Day, we realize this even more acutely and clearly, and we invariably look up to the generation of winners: brave, noble, wise,” Putin said.
He noted that Russia would not allow itself to be threatened by anyone.
“Our strategic forces are always on alert,” Putin stressed.
At the same time, according to him, Russia will do everything to prevent a global clash.
Touching upon the current political realities, Putin noted that today they are trying to distort the truth about the Second World War, it hinders those who build a colonial policy on lies.
“They demolish memorials of truth to the fighters against Nazism, put traitors and accomplices of the Nazis on pedestals, erase the memory of the heroism and nobility of the soldiers of liberation, of the great sacrifice they made in the name of life,” the Russian leader said.
According to him, today revanchism, mockery of history, and the desire to justify the current followers of the Nazis are part of the general policy of Western elites to foment new regional conflicts, interethnic and interreligious hostility to deter sovereign, independent centers of world development.
However, despite all this, Victory Day unites all generations who are moving forward based on age-old traditions, Putin is sure.
“I am sure that together we will ensure a free, secure future for Russia, our united people,” he said before the Victory Day Parade.
Then the President of the Russian Federation, together with the leaders of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Cuba, Laos and the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, laid flowers at the grave of the Unknown Soldier in the Alexander Garden in Moscow.
