The tournament will be held in Algeria from January 13 to February 4, 2023, 17 teams will take part in it, including Senegal, Libya, Ivory Coast and Ghana.

The host country of the championship, Algeria, will host the opening match with Libya on Friday, January 13, at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Baraki, Algeria. Then Ethiopia and Mozambique will take the baton.

The official mascot of the African Football Championship (CHAN) was fenek, an Arab fox whose habitat is North Africa named Kobtan, which literally means Captain. On the official logo, Fenek stands against the background of the famous Algerian doors of the oldest mosque of Tlemcen named after Sidi Boumediene, built in 1339.

“The story on the poster is the details of the journey of the Algerian people. A pure architectural gem. The legendary gates of the Sidi Boumediene Mosque are located in Tlemcen, a city with a rich heritage, in the Abbad region – and occupy a special place in the history of Algeria,” the Confederation of African Football (CAF) said.

“The orange color embodies the warmth of the desert in the south of the country and evokes the smell of citrus fruits. The official poster of the African Nations Championship bears the title “Marhaba”, which means “Welcome!”, the CAF noted.
