Statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry on new US anti-Russian sanctions

The package of sanctions measures announced by the US Administration (already the 101st in a row) affecting the financial sector with the expansion of the list of persons against whom personal restrictions are imposed is in line with Washington’s ongoing attempts to change Russia’s course.

Despite the obvious futility of the efforts made over the years to hinder the development of our economy, the United States is again reflexively grasping at restrictive instruments that are ineffective and counterproductive from the point of view of American interests.

Russia has proved that, with all the sanctions costs, it is able to minimize the damage caused. And even more so, sanctions pressure is not able to influence our determination to firmly defend our interests.

We state that in the arsenal of American foreign policy, which is in thrall to the stereotypes of the unipolar world with the false conviction that the United States still has the right and can impose its own rules of the world order on everyone, there are no other means left except blackmail, intimidation and threats. In relation to world powers, primarily Russia and other key international players, this does not work. The “shouts” from the USA should be followed by their satellites and customers who have completely lost their independence. And we are open to diplomacy based on the principles of mutual respect, equality and consideration of each other’s interests.

There should be no doubt – a strong response will be given to the sanctions, not necessarily symmetrical, but verified and sensitive for the American side.
