Damen Shipyards has received an order for the construction of innovative vessels for the commissioning and maintenance of offshore wind farms (Commissioning Service Operation Vessels – CSOV), which use hydrogen as bunker fuel.

The customer is Windcat, a company specializing in the delivery of personnel to offshore facilities. As reported by SeaNews in the Damen group, the project was developed in collaboration with Windcat and CMB.TECH.

CSOV vessels of the Elevation Series will have a length of 87 m, a width of 20 m and a passenger capacity of 120 people. Construction will be carried out at the Ha Long shipyard in Vietnam. Delivery is scheduled starting in 2025.

The contract provides for the construction of two vessels with an option for additional vessels. CSOV’s operator will be Windcat’s newly created subsidiary, Windcat Offshore.

The peculiarity of CSOV vessels is that they not only deliver personnel and necessary materials to wind farms, but also remain at the work site for up to 30 days, performing the functions of a floating hotel for workers and technicians.
