Yamal scientists of the department of the Russian Geographical Society will test the latest Russian radio system that can be used instead of a mobile phone. For example, in remote areas — where there is no connection.

The system will also work on regular smartphones — it is enough to install a mobile application. In case of successful tests, the new development will be put into production.

The new means of communication are very similar to mobile devices. Subscriber terminals, they are also wearable radio stations, will be, roughly speaking, a WiFi router. They will be similar in the principle of operation of the cellular network.

They will test the new device during a large-scale expedition to the island of Zhokhov (Novosibirsk Islands). It starts in August next year from Moscow. Participants will be not only members of the Yamal RGS, but also employees of other services.

It will be a big scientific and technical expedition. Several main objectives are historical, archaeological and testing of the latest means of communication.
