On March 18 this year, a working meeting of the heads of the SCO and CIS Observer Missions – SCO Deputy Secretary General G.S.Logvinov and First Deputy Secretary General of the CIS L.V.Anfimov took place in Astana.

The interlocutors noted the calm and businesslike situation in the country on the eve and during the election campaign, the revival of the electorate, the high level of preparation for the election campaign, proper technical equipment of polling stations. It is stated that there is almost complete coincidence of positions on election observation methods based on the principles of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, unconditional respect for the sovereign right of peoples to independently choose a model of socio-political development that best meets their cultural and civilizational traditions.

On April 12, 2005, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the SCO Secretariat and The CIS Executive Committee.
